Our Team
AUREA is a completely volunteer based initiative. While none of our team is paid, we all are incredibly passionate about developing the best resource for aromantic-spectrum people that we can.
If you are interested in joining AUREA as a full time team member, please email us at contact@aromanticism.org. If you’d like to contribute in a smaller role or aren’t sure where to start, check out our Get Involved page!
Regarding AUREA’s finances, our Financial Record can be found here. This details how much we receive and spend per year. If you have any questions, feel free to email us.
GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM
Jo, Administrative Assistant
They/Them/Theirs
Aromantic, Asexual, Trans (Nonbinary, Genderless)
United States
Jo has worked as an administrator for various LGBT+/queer nonprofits since 2018, but has also felt the lack of awareness around aro identities in many greater LGBT+ spaces. With AUREA, they hope to use their administrative skills to serve their aromantic community. When not organizing things, Jo is an Irish dancer - they use dance as a way to build community connection through teaching and performance.
NIMAT, CENSUS COORDINATOR
He/Him/His, They/Them/Theirs, Ey/Em/Eir
Aromantic, Asexual
United States
While searching for data on aromanticism, Nimat was struck by the dearth of information available. However, the Aro Census 2020 Report and the Aro Census 2020 Companion Report had so much useful and interesting information that it sparked his interest in the AUREA census team. Ey is very excited for the work ahead, including running the future censuses. Nimat also wants to contribute to greater inclusivity and diversity for AUREA as it is very important to him to help make aromantic spaces to become more inviting for BIPOC and other underrepresented voices.
Volunteer Management Team
UNYOUNG, VOLUNTEER ONBOARDER
She/Her/Hers, Ey/Em/Eir
Aroqueer, Aromantic, Genderqueer
Netherlands
UnYoung is a mental health researcher and is working to create mental health resources for arospec people alongside other arospec activists. Using eir experience with coordinating and supervising research interns, she helps AUREA’s volunteers with onboarding and provides them with the necessary information to get them started. Considering that volunteers are integral to AUREA’s work, she hopes she can help new volunteers feel welcome. Ey speaks a couple of languages, and as a Latine immigrant, ey has high hopes for AUREA’s further internationalization. She tries to apply a collective liberation framework to eir work and hopes to contribute this in AUREA’s efforts to being diverse, inclusive, and accessible.
El, Volunteer Coordinator (Translators)
She/Her/Hers, They/Them/Theirs
Aroflux, Cis Woman
What is currently known as Canada
El is an immigrant-settler psych student who will be researching the lived experiences of aromantics. She is passionate about mental health & well-being and 2SLGBTQIA+ studies. Due to her passion and self-discovery, they learned about aromanticism and amatonormativity. Her curiosity led her to learn more about aromanticism, identify as aroflux, and join AUREA. As a volunteer coordinator for translators, El hopes to make translators feel supported and recognized for their work. They also aim to make aromanticism information and resources available in as many languages as possible on the AUREA website to increase visibility and to help people understand aromanticism.

ORGANIZATIONAL OUTREACH TEAM
ABHAINN, SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR
They/Them/Theirs
Aroace, Nonbinary, Lesbian
United States
Abhainn first entered the aromantic community after realizing that their experiences of love and romance didn’t mesh with the wider worlds’. After spending several years growing and learning to understand themself better, they hope to help in creating more resources so that other aromantics can find the community more easily than they did. Abhainn has a background in social work and graphic design. This combination of skills led them to the role of Social Media Coordinator, where they hope to build community and share resources with other aromantic people. Abhainn hopes that AUREA will create an easily accessible starting point for questioning aros, while providing an information hub for aromantics already involved in the community.
leah, Organizational Outreach Manager
She/Her/Hers, Ae/Aer/Aers
Aroallospec, Greyplatonic (Plato-Averse), Bi/Pan-aesthetic, Cisgender woman
United Kingdom
Leah has known she is aromantic since June 2022, after spending her whole life feeling like she was broken. The aromantic community has given aer the acceptance and understanding that ae now wishes to pass on to others through aer work with AUREA. This is her first long-term volunteer job, and she is excited to hone her skills in communication and organisation. She is particularly passionate about spreading awareness of aroallos and aplatonics and removing the stigma and misconceptions of aspec identities. When not working on aer tasks with AUREA, Leah is a student finishing a bachelor's degree in sociology and politics and is planning to get her dog grooming qualifications.
Our Volunteers
AUREA would not be possible without a lot of help from our volunteers. If you’re interested in volunteering with us, see the Get Involved page for details.
