If you have heard of the term, or you are on the aromantic spectrum, this book is also for you. An Introduction to Aromanticism will take you on a deeper dive into aromantic history, activism, and experiences. It will build on your existing knowledge to better understand the aromantic community so you can more fully understand your identity or become the best ally you can be!
AUREA, the Aromantic-spectrum Union for Recognition, Education, and Advocacy, is an volunteer-run organization with a diverse set of members from all over the world. It exists to further the recognition and education of aromanticism internationally by compiling information about aromanticism on the internet, and now in this book. This publication is AUREA’s latest project to spread awareness, share aromantic experiences, and educate both aromantic individuals and their allies. The information within this book is drawn from the authors’ own experiences, accounts from aromantic community members, the Aromantic Census, research papers related to aromantic and queer identity, AUREA’s own resources, and more. It is written by a team of aromantic volunteers and draws heavily from community input in order to allow a wide variety of voices to contribute.
An Introduction to Aromanticism will take a look at the aromantic community’s history, different aromantic experiences and labels, how aromanticism interacts with mental health and different aspects of identity, and the aromantic community’s hopes for the future. Here, we will take an introductory approach to provide a reliable resource for long-time aromantic people while also making it an easier read for people newer to aromanticism to best learn about everything aromantic.
