DIY Pride Gear (Part 2)
Last year some of AUREA’s team members lent their expertise to show you some fun DIY Pride gear ideas that you could try yourself, just in time for Christmas. Half a year on, and there’s still not enough aromantic pride gear out in the world. (Honestly, will there ever be? No. No there will not.)
To help fix that, we’re back again in this Pride Month where we once again showcase some simple DIY ideas so you can show off your aromantic pride, without breaking the bank.
All tutorials have an attached cost, calculated in the specified currency the project was completed with. So sit back, relax, and get your craft on with these five tutorials!
DIY Stickers
Have you ever wanted to cover everything you own in cool pictures you’ve found/drawn, but making your own stickers seems way too expensive? Head over to this DIY sticker tutorial to find out how to do it on the cheap instead! Estimated at around $13 AUD, this tutorial uses common household items, meaning it may be even cheaper for you.
Aplatonic Apple Embroidery Patch
Rock some aplatonic pride with this adorable (and punny) apple patch. The tutorial goes over the basics of sewing and embroidery, and gives some tips to try cut down on the price. At $25 USD if you’re starting from scratch, or $3 USD if you already have the embroidery tools, this tutorial can be a fun way to show some pride, while also an opportunity to set up a brand new and versatile hobby.
Aromatic Aromantic Patch
If you’ve finished off your first embroidery patch and want to sniff out some more, be sure to check out this follow up tutorial! We all know that the aro community loves a good pun, and this chemistry inspired aromatic aromantic patch, with a bow and arrow included for good measure, certainly hits the spot. If you’ve already purchased supplies for the previous patch, this one will be much cheaper for you, but again, if starting from scratch, you're looking at about $25 USD overall.
Whimsical Pom Pom Earrings
Try your hand at these quick and easy earrings made from yarn! At only around $13 AUD, these are a cheap option for some pride, while requiring very little skill to make. It’s also super easy to make a ton of different pride options, just by changing the colour of your yarn. Check out the tutorial here!
Aromantic Knitted Flag
Last, but certainly not least, we have a tutorial for the knitters among the community. This one will teach you how to DIY yourself an aro flag, because who doesn’t want a homemade knitted flag? We want ten, and at $20-27 USD, with that covering supplies for multiple projects, that’s pretty affordable. You will need some basic knitting knowledge for this one, but youtube can be your best friend if you’d like to learn how.
We had a lot of fun making pride gear and we hope you do too! Whether you wear these pieces every day of the week, for your next pride parade, or alone in your room we hope they remind you of the vast community you are a part of. We hope to do more articles like this in the future, if you have a DIY of your own you’d like us to share or an idea you want brought to life, email as at contact@aromanticism.org.
