What's Going On: April 2021
For our article schedule this month we’ll be posting either a long form interview piece with some autistic aros or multiple submission pieces from some autistic aros. Find out on the fourth Friday of this month!
Are you online?
The March Carnival of Aros round-up is here! There’s some great pieces to read about intersectionality and inclusivity, we’ll certainly be taking notes. April’s topic is being hosted by Constance on his blog. (EDIT 11/04/2021:) We’re talking Self-care, Self-love, and Aromanticism, what does this practise look like for you?
We have some online groups to recommend!
The first is an international meet-up that can be found here on facebook. The group discusses a different topic each month and the next one coming is ‘other forms of attraction that interplay with your aromanticism in life’. If you’re interested in attending, the next call is on the 10th April at 11AM.
The second is Asexual and Aromantic South Wales over on facebook. They are currently a peer support and social group, but are open to events and campaigns in the future!
And finally, again on facebook, we have the Milwaukee Asexual/Aromantic Lounge. This is an old group that’s started up again with plans to have virtual meet-ups!

Aros in the media
Sydney Roach, a WCN Reporter, has been awarded with a Broadcast Education Association (BEA) 2021 Award of Excellence for her senior capstone project - a project that explores what it means to be aromantic. As far as we know, Roach is not aromantic herself. She previously interviewed Kieran, our Volunteer Coordinator, about aromanticism and to see her showing an interest in the identity once again is wonderful. You can listen to her award winning documentary on soundcloud.
Your Everything-to-Know Guide on What It Means to Be Aromantic by Sophia Melissa Caraballo Piñeiro. This is an introductory piece from the Cosmopolitan for questioning aros. It’s a solid read about possible signs, how to support aros, and how to be proud of being aromantic.
What Are Fraysexuality And Frayromanticism? by Ritika Joshi. A simple article that outlines what these two orientations are. It is on SheThePeople which describes itself as Asia’s Largest Women’s Channel. It looks like aromantic identities are starting to gain some real recognition!
The Surprising Reason These Fans Feel Grateful For The Good Place's Tahani by Eric Betts
In the finale of NBC's afterlife sitcom The Good Place, the members of the Soul Squad get everything they've ever wanted…But the fourth human member of Team Cockroach finds her fulfillment in a different way.
A piece about a fictional character who reads to some aros as aromantic and how her overall story ending without romantic love should be considered important by everyone.
Aromantics Address
aroace-avenue on tumblr is considering putting together a webinar of sorts to train counselors on how to handle aromantics. They ask: what would aro competent therapy look like to you?
