What's Going On: March 2021

The month following ASAW is always a little quieter, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing on. For our article schedule this month we’ll be posting some pieces written for the Carnival of Aros and My Aromantic Fears (Part 2). Find out more below.

Are you online?

The topic of this month’s Carnival of Aros is intersectionality and inclusivity. The prompt was proposed by Erederyn or gracesofluck and the example questions can be found here on her blog. As the aromantic community is young and growing this is a fantastic time for us to cement diversity as a tenet of our identity. AUREA will be paying great attention to this round of CoAs to learn more about the experiences and needs of marginalized aros.

There are always survey’s floating around aromantic circles and today we have three for you. They’re all small, informal things and two of them you’ll need a reddit account to answer. The ideas being researched are:

We’ll be interested to see the results!

Volunteer Calls

AUREA is currently recruiting for a number of positions on the AUREA team, as outlined on our Volunteers Page. Please note that these are all unpaid volunteer positions, and you would be expected to dedicate a certain amount of your free time to helping run AUREA. If you are interested in any of the listed roles and believe you have the relevant experience, we’d love to hear from you! Email us at contact@aromanticism.org, and include the role title you’re interested in in the subject line. We are looking to diversify in all positions, particularly with the following people:

  • Cis Men

  • Disabled people

  • People from countries outside of the U.S.

  • People of colour

  • Trans Men/Transmasculine

  • Trans Women/Transfeminine

And Arocalypse is searching for moderators for Australian and East Asian time zones. If you are interested, you can find more information over at Arocalypse

Alliance highlights Aromantic Spectrum Week by Demetrous Nobles

Alliance is a branch of the Office of Multicultural Programs (OMP) here on campus that exists to support, educate and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, Alliance uses this time to take to social media and educate the community about what this week represents and what aromantic means.

A summary article explaining how Valparaiso University, in Indiana, U.S., is helping to support and educate others about aromantics.

Sexual fluidity is a normal part of young adulthood by Yukiko Yamazaki

Growing up, many of us were not taught about different sexualities and had a very limited, heteronormative idea of what sex and romance should look like. While there is a growing media and discourse about different sexual orientations, I do not see much asexual or aromantic representation in an abundance of hypersexualized American media.

An identity piece about the labels, societal expectations, and fluidity.
