A Discord server for Oceanic Aces and Aros has been put together! Topics of discussion range from music to photography, plus resources for you and your loved ones. If you’re looking to make some aro friends in your area, this is a good place to start. 

Out and about?

ASAW definitely spoiled us with the in person events, but March isn’t looking too bad either!

We even had two events on March 3rd - IdentiTEAs: Aromantic in Santa Barbara and Asexuality and Aromantic Discussion Group in Burnaby. Since they happened before the first Friday of the month, we unfortunately didn’t quite get to tell you about them in time, but we did share the information about them on our social media to get the word out. We hope no one missed it!

For aros in New York City, there’s a fourth meeting of Oasis Drop-In Group for a-specs on 18th March. The link is to an older event, but the place is the same! The event will continue in April too, so save the dates for 7th and 21st.

An Aromantic/Asexual Adult (18+) Friendship Circle starts on 9th March, and is happening weekly in Provo, Utah. Go join the friendship circle, which, can we just say, what a lovely name!

British Columbia is having an Asexual and Aromantic Meet-Up on the 19th of March. This sounds like a fun opportunity to chat and meet some new people, so if you’re in the area, make sure to check it out! 

Aros in the media

Yasmin Benoit, a well known face in aro and ace circles, has set up her own portfolio website. The model turned activist has collected many of her interviews and social media in a single place, one that can easily allow you to get in touch if you’re interested in a word or two with her yourself. 

AUREA’s very own Ramen has written the comic, ‘The Colour of Hope is Green’. This beautifully drawn piece - done by minami - comments on the outsider feeling that is sadly common among aros, even in otherwise welcoming spaces. The comic reminds us that, no matter what other people say, aros have a place in the LGBTQIA+ community. 

Aromantics Address

  • A thread on Aro representation in LGBT places. It’s a little messy in the middle, but the general conversation highlights how you can contribute to that representation. For those of you interested in Queer Theory, there is an added link on how this area of expertise is very friendly towards aromantics, though lacking in much dicussion on us as of yet. There is also some talk of getting ourselves a Wikipedia page on Aromanticism and how we would go about doing that. 

  • If aros aren’t to follow the general expected life plan that everyone does: How can we put down roots? There’s been much discussion on our futures lately and this one is no different. How do you plan on settling?

  • ASAW 2020 has come and gone. You can check in on our recap of events here or you can add your own experiences to this thread. What did you achieve this ASAW? And how much fun was it!
